There are multiple definitions that describe and define mental health.
The science of mental health deals directly with behavior, and the latter is through which we judge cases of misery or not, and distinguish between methods of adjustment and adjustment, whether negative or positive.
The first to use the term mental health is the scientist “Adolf Mayer” to refer to the personal behavior of the individual as well as the social behavior, towards normal and how to prevent mental disorders.
So, mental health: it is the individual's adaptation to himself and his external environment, in a way that ensures this and makes him able to face problems, and then a feeling of satisfaction is formed for him.
Also, mental health is not the absence of disease, but rather a state of physical, psychological, and social comfort, as stated in the definition of the World Health Organization.
It was added that mental health is nothing but that balance in the transition, between the three stages of life, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
Meaning that if each of these stages is dealt with, with the requirements of each stage, the person will be psychologically balanced afterwards.
It is our neglect of the requirements of each stage that leads us later to the imbalance in this balance.
To be mentally healthy means that I have the ability to know myself, knowing my strengths and weaknesses.
Also, there must be unconditional acceptance of oneself, whether physical, psychological, or intellectual self-acceptance.
Likewise, he who enjoys mental health is able to satisfy his needs and motives in a positive way, enjoying flexibility in every circumstance, able to absorb all changes that occur suddenly and coexist with them.
It must also be away from psychological conflicts and frustrations, in order to ensure a distinct psychological structure for this personality.
The individual's positive interaction with his society and unconditional adaptation guarantees him a distinct psychological health, and man, by nature, is a social being who is familiar and composed.
Also, being in harmony with the requirements of the body and the requirements of the family, the requirements of the social environment around it, and the spiritual requirements of worship and others, and giving everyone his right, and balancing these aspects, all of this is one of the sources of mental health.
And in conclusion, a positive view of everything around him, changing the angles of view, being satisfied with what was written for him, not expanding what was given to others, and comparing oneself with others.
The poet Muhammad Mustafa Hamam says:
I saw contentment lighten my burdens..and throw tragedies down.
And the one who inspired contentment, you will not see him.. forever, envious or arrogant.
Life has taught me that it has two flavors: bitter and sweet.
I became accustomed to her condition, and made changes and alterations.
This was our brief talk about the elements of mental health, so be gentle with yourselves, and do not burden them beyond what you can bear.. May God protect us all..
